Much of my last year has been spent in ill health, at one point having to spend a few months in a care facility. It was touch and go, and very difficult to be a great distance from home with no cats or art available to feed my head. Sometimes life is hard.
Fortunately, a squad of guardian angels descended to help. I had been transported by ambulance to a facility in Shelton, about 2-1/2 hrs away, leaving my poor cats to fend for themselves. I'm still pretty new to Washington and had no one who knew my cats who could step in--and I had no phone or laptop with me, no access to any info I'd need to make arrangements. In a Hail Mary pass I asked an orderly to contact one of my FB friends, and he was available to find a phone number for her. She is a dynamo, and came to my rescue, enlisting the help of a second angel. Weeks later, another neighbor joined the squad, even climbing my roof to remove a tree sprouting in a gutter.
As an immuno-compromised senior, I was concerned when I first relocated to Ocean Shores because of its remote location some distance from quality medical facilities. And, I wasn't sure how wise it was to move somewhere where I knew no one. But this experience has shown me that there are still good people out there and random acts of kindness can be had if you open your heart. (Photo at top shows a typical nursing home meal that I was served... like scoops of something the cat horked up. Took a long time but I finally figured out how to get doordash delivered in the facility.)
